Principles
Selection principles
Root Inside writes no articles in this feed. It picks good primary material and introduces it by link. The rules for what it picks are set out below.
In force from 2026-10-20
1. Official sources only
- Repositories link only to the repository's front page on GitHub.
- Articles come only from the official blogs of research organisations and open-source foundations, official documentation and paper abstract pages.
- News articles, lists on other curation sites, social media posts, videos, short links and file-sharing links are not listed.
2. Safety first
- For each repository the site checks its age, whether its owner is a verified organisation, whether its release files are executables only, and whether its name imitates a well-known name.
- Only the facts checked are shown on the card; anything not checked is marked 'not checked'.
- An item with a concern is not listed.
- These marks do not certify that anything is safe. They only show the facts that were checked.
3. Licences are shown
- Each repository's licence is shown as one of three states: 'free', 'with conditions' or 'check needed'.
- This mark is general information, not legal advice.
- Before using anything, read the licence text itself and, where needed, ask a professional.
4. Useful to non-specialists
- The site picks material that a reader who is not a developer can understand and learn from.
- Popularity alone is not a reason to pick an item.
5. What the site does not do
- It writes no ratings or commentary on the material.
- It does not tell readers which tool to use.
- It does not list install steps, run commands or download links.
- It does not cover stocks, investment or other financial information.
- The learning assistant's examples are general information, not advice. (The learning assistant is on the Korean pages only.)
- The learning assistant's expert and non-specialist modes differ only in how they explain and follow the same rules.
6. Who picks the items
- Candidates are collected automatically by fixed rules.
- Candidates whose checked safety marks show no warning may be approved together; a candidate with a warning or an unchecked mark is checked one by one.
- Only items approved by Root Inside are listed.
- There is no fixed publishing schedule. On a day with no approved item there is no new item.
